The Arbor Consort is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides an educational and entertaining glimpse into living history. We have a standard educational program, approximately 90 minutes in length, during which we sing an assortment of early secular music, introducing each song with a short narrative describing the historical context of the songs. Then members answer questions about life during the Renaissance describing in particular the clothing which we are wearing. This program can be adapted to different lengths and with varying content.
The Arbor Consort singers are all volunteers. However, we typically charge a fee for our presentations in order to cover expenses such as rehearsal space rental, musical direction, costuming, and travel. Your support will help to fund free educational concerts in community schools, libraries, and public events, such as the following recent events:
SCA St. Cecilia at the Tower Symposium on Medieval and Renaissance Music
The Canton Public Library: An Elizabethan Afternoon of Songs
The Plymouth Public Library: An Afternoon of Songs
The Ann Arbor Public Library: An Elizabethan Evening of Songs
